Is it possible to select specific fields from a table or use a function like distinct on a field.

I have two tables, one of the columns in the table where i want to run the select has a foreign key. My intent is to run the query using the distinct function on that column, however instead of hardcoding the sql statement, i wanted to see if there was some way that i could use the mappings to generate the sql.

And of course read HibernateExamples and some other links on the Hibernate website. The reference documentation is also a very good idea once you get the basic concepts of object/relational mapping. I'm sorry, but there's no easy answer waiting for your question...
