BIGINT is typically a 64bit integer but it seems that Hibernate maps these to BigInteger instead of Long. I assume there must be a reason for this? I'd be a lot happier about all the extra casts I have to do on native result sets if I understood why.

Is there a performance reason for using BigInteger instead of Long? Btw, the documentation states BIGINT is mapped to Long but you can see in Dialect.java that it is using Big Integer.

Thanks!
