Hi,
I'm using javax.validation.Valid (hibernate-validator implementation) on a Spring MVC controller to validate arguments:

@RequestMapping(value = "/add_customer", method = RequestMethod.POST)
@ResponseBody
public CustomerModel addCustomer(@RequestBody @Valid CustomerModel customer,
BindingResult result) {
if (!result.hasErrors()) {
return customer;
} else {
return null;
}
}

This works correctly so argument CustomerModel is validated as expected but if I add hibernate-core to my project dependencies

when I call the addCustomer(...) method I get the exception:

Caused by: java.lang.ClassCastException: org.eclipse.persistence.jpa.PersistenceProvider cannot be cast to javax.persistence.spi.PersistenceProvider

Removing hibernate-core dependency fixes the problem.
I've tried to use different version of hibernate-core/hibernate-validator with no luck.

It seems like you're using Hibernate ORM and EclipseLink at the same time. You only should pull in one provider into your classpath. You can do an "mvn dependency:tree" to check where these dependencies come from.

Thank you very much Gunnar you are right, I had an Eclipselink jar into tomcat lib directory.
Removing this jar solves the problem.
