 Post subject: Possible to selected timespan in filter

I need a query that checks in a post is overlapping a already created one.

I have the following data:

Code:
NAME       VALID_FROM        VALID_TO
aaa        2010-02-01        2010-02-05
bbb        2010-02-05        2010-02-10
ccc        2010-02-10        2010-02-15

Is it possible to create a filer that could prevent creating an overlapping entry?

My objects
Code:
ddd        2010-02-01        2010-02-03        NOT VALID
eee        2010-02-15        2010-02-20        VALID
fff        2010-01-01        2010-02-02        NOT VALID


Is Filter Expression the right way to go?
