I am using Hibernate 3.3.2 and PostgreSQL 8.3.

I am trying to use JPA and Hibernate annotations to create an index on a "recipient" column of "email_offer_log" table. I tried adding an @Index annotation on the column as well as @org.hibernate.annotations.Table(appliesTo = "email_offer_log", indexes = {@Index(name = "idx_recipient", columnNames = "recipient")}) on the class, but neither seems to create an index.

Each time I start with a clean database and the "email_offer_log" table get created correctly, but I can't get the index to get created.

Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?
