Hi

We have come across a bug where sometimes when doing a wildcard we get a TooManyClause exception. I understand why this is happening. I had a look on the lucene wiki and some options that have been mentioned is changing the maxClausCount however this has a negative performance impact. Another option is to wrap the query in a filter however I'm not sure how this is supposed to work. I'm guessing that the exception is happening when processing the raw results because a particular user role security applied would not have that many results.

I'm not sure if anyone has come across this and if there is a way to overcome this problem without slowing down the search results.

Any help would be really appreciated. I am going with the option taht we catch the error and say to the user "too many hits please refine". The problem with that is that the user may not have that many records which could cause the exception.

Thanks

Going with the option of sending a polite message to refine the search query.
