However, Hibernate Validator 4.0.0.alpha2 doesn't provide @Valid. Is there anything wrong in the spec or will H.V. provide @Valid in a new (next?) release?

Hibernate Validator does provide @Valid as it's part of javax.validation
which is one of the dependency of HV 4.

I will ask Hardy to double check though.
