Is there a [best] way that I can intercept the SQL that Hibernate generates and modify it before it goes to the database?

I'm looking into ways to speed up lots of INSERT statements. The Jaybird JDBC driver for Firebird defeats any attempts to batch the statements in the standard Hibernate way but there are some Firebird tricks I would like to try, like:

1) Creating file-backed tables with the new data and importing from there to the real tables

2) Copying the INSERT statements as a blob into a table with a trigger that parses the blob and executes the INSERT statements as a batch on the database side.

Could I write a batcher or some such object that could get/change/send the SQL?
