Post subject: Cant generate - no errors

Hibernate tools version: 3.2.3 GA
Eclipse version: 3.3.2 Europe

When trying to generate from reverse engeneering nothing happens.
This is very weird since I have earlier been able to generate, and I know that the configuration files are alright, since they work in my colleagues environment - with the same setup.

There are no errors generated nor output to the console, it just executes very fast and nothing is generated. I can in the Hibernate tools perspective in Eclipse browse my database, so I know the connection through JDBC is alright.

I have tried reinstalling eclipse, hibernate tools etc. but only to achieve the same result.

We have even tried to copy my colleagues entire Eclipse working dir to my computer to ensure 100% similar setups, again with the same result...

Any suggestions apreciated!

Look for hibernate.default_schema - is it set to something that might be not exist ? Resulting in the reverse engineering to go really really fast ? :)

are you using the same casing ? i.e. some dbs are case sensitive over their schema names.

Do you have any reveng.xml files ?

Do you have reverse engineering selected ?

Yes, yes and yes.

As I said earlier, the config files are a 100% match from SVN of those my colleague is using. We have exactly the same database setup as well.

Well, yeah, thats kinda obvious - and this is why this is so weird... Since our config files are the same it must be something with my environment... The even weirder thing is, that for around 2 weeks ago it wasnt a problem...

I understand, that this is hard to debug when I cant concretize the problem more...But anyhow, thanks alot for your help.. let me know if anything else pops into your head.. :)

permissions ?

Have you tried using the *exact* same remote database with the exact same user/schema ?

I figure permissions isnt a problem, since I can "browse" my database through hibernate tools.
I am currently working on a local database which is a copy of my colleagues, which is, again, working :)

furthermore, usually when hibernate has problems connecting in any way it throws an exception...at least i think? :)

well, being able to connect does not mean that we can read the metadata - but apparently that does work for you since you can browse.

But if you can browse the database via the hibernate configuration view then we should definitly get *some* output....the only thing I could imagine looking like you explain is:

1) some reveng.xml being picked up that excludes the tables

2) the output is being generated but you havent refreshed or are looking in a different directory than what the target is set for

3) the LHC in Geneva have malfired

I must admint, even thoug it is strange, after deleting my reveng.xml file I can generate... I doesnt exlude any tables, but anyhow it works now - or at least without my reveng.xml..

Thanks alot Max -- and lets hope that LHC wont malfire and cause microscopic black holes and strange matter... Imagine Europe without the alpes and lac LĂ©man...instead a big black hole :P
