I am fairly new to using Hibernate, so I'm not sure if this is a piloting error or if I'm trying to combine things the wrong way. I have a struts 2-spring-hibernate application. I have overidden equals() and hashCode() to use my natural keys, and also used the <natural-id> tag in my mapping file (see below). Everything works great except when I try to do an update instead of an insert. I end up with an Exception because my equals() method is getting a java.lang.Long as the parameter (it contains the id of the "object" natural key) and is comparing it to an actual DataObject in this snippet of the exception:
If a remove the <natural-id> tag from the mapping file, all is good and the code works fine. If I don't, the last sql statement executed was to get the IDs of my natural keys (I used show-sql=true to see it, because the call is to the DAO snippet below).
Am I using this functionality incorrectly? I'm going to remove the <natural-id> tags for now so we can move on, but would like to put them back if they're supposed to be there.
