Did you seriously get a worm from those lectures?

Of course not. But I'm also not using Windows, so who knows what's in it, after all it's an executable file format that runs in a weak sandbox. I'd never open something like this on Windows.

Well, I doubt you were the target for these lectures. As much as we all hate Windows, most of us have to live with it to some degree.

Although the early versions of my Free Java lectures were indeed done on MS Powerpoint, since I wrote most of them Open Office has appeared.

As you may know, using OpenOffice, you can view any MS Powerpoint document for free. So, no need to patronize Microsoft--use Open Office.


And as a final note. When I started writing these lectures in the late 1990's, there was no alternative to MS Powerpoint. When you do read the lectures, you will see that I am no fan of Microsoft. I just had no alternative at the time.

And if anyone suggests rewriting them in HTML or something--you haven't looked at the lectures. They take advantage of the animation that is possible in Powerpoint (and the open office equivalent) to dynamically show code execution, the values in instance variables, etc. So, converting these lectures to HTML/whatever would not only be a gargantuan task but it would lose a lot of value that I currently have.
