I have a class which has a collection of value types. The class has the default-access attribute set to "field", and so are the properties of the components taken - by field. However, when I add a <parent> element, it says the "parent" property cannot be found. When I add getters and setters it works.
Why does Hibernate need properties to set this, why doesn't the field access work?

FYI - there's an open jira issue for this problem.
