While deciding between the usage of Hibernate Core and Hibernate EntityManager what are the architectural decision that will drive the usage of EntityManager over Core?

Hibernate EntityManager is an implementation of the Java Persistence API. Also it is much closer to the standards since it is compatible with EJB 3.0 specification.

At a much lower level, it means you dont need to use your hbm.xml files for OR mapping or define your entity classes in persistence.xml.
