I have a many-to-many relationship that uses java.util.List as the Collection representation on both sides. In order to keep it a List semantic, I know I need to use the @IndexColumn annotation. The question is, do I need to define @IndexColumn for both sides of the relationship, or just the parent (the side that includes the @JoinColumn)?

Check the Hibernate reference documentation, I think there is an explaination why a bidirectional list does not make much sense
