I get this error when attempting to open session from within hibernate console.
Looks like an HttpClient version problem since MethodRetryHandler is deprecated.

Does someone know a fix for this problem?

does your pojo's use httpclient methodretryhandler ?

is it a different version than the one we use in hbiernate3 ?

Yes, parts of the code still use an older httpclient version.
Eventually it was enough to add commons-httpclient-3.0.1.jar to class path for the console. I did not have to add it before though...
Anyway it works now.
