Stored text format

Hallo,
in my application, I store a longer Text in the Database. But the formats like line breaks are lost. Is there a way to keep these formats.

public String getContDescription() {
      return contDescription;

I can't see why line breaks would be lost. How did you create the db schema? What is the type of the "contDescription" column?
