install eclipse 3.2
install Hibernate tools (unzip or updatesite)

nothing more nothing less...and let me know if that works.

I went back to a squeaky-clean, freshly-downloaded eclipse 3.2 with no updates or plugins and installed Tools from the update site. Also tried using a new workspace. Same result: overlay icons are there, but no syntax highlighting, autocomplete, et al I had to restart eclipse to get the overlay icon to appear on a *hbm.xml mapping file; the hibernate.cfg.xml file showed the icon just fine.

Fwiw, I also tried installing everything from the update site at: http://download.jboss.org/jbosside/updates/development on top of a complete callisto install. No dice.

I tried installing the nightly build org.hibernate.eclipse.jdt.apt.ui_3.2.0.200609251907-nightly.jar over Tools 3.2b7 on clean eclipse 3.2. Had to add a few features from eclipse/callisto update that the nightly build wanted. Still no worky.

For some reason eclipse doesn't like to recognize some or all of Tools when installed from a zipfile (-clean or not). This is what happened when installing 3.2b7 from zipfile onto clean eclipse -- it was as if I had done nothing.

My clean install of eclipse did not have any of the callisto plugins installed. The "replace with another version" feature of the updater complained that it could not switch to the nightly version because it required wst, jem, gef, etc., which sure looked like they were in the Tools jar. Installing those features from the callisto update site allowed me to switch over to the nightly build.

Is there any more I can do to help resolve this? Am I the only one having this problem?

fwiw, the reveng multi-tab editor does work.

It just works for me when I unzip into a clean eclipse install.

...haven't had any other "bad install" reports that were not solvable
by using the actual *releases* (not milestones) of eclipse Core and WTP.

I unzipped eclipse 3.2.0 build id M20060629-1905; started it; downloaded Tools 3.2b7 from the update site; restarted; created a mapping file. No mapping editor. Of course, WTP is not installed, but Tools says it is correctly configured. Shouldn't it compain? Doesn't the plugin know about its dependencies?

Unzipped the 1.5.0 release of WTP all-in-one-sdk onto eclipse. Restart. Restart *-clean*. Eclipse fails to recognize the presence of WTP. Oh, good.

Used the update site for WTP to install release 1.5.1, which is dated 9/11 rather than 9/23 as on the download site -- thank you, WTP release manager. >:-(

Doesn't work; more upgrades; scream into a pillow; other upgrades.

I've tried and tried to get this to work. I give up ... until 3.2b8.

hmm...sounds like you tried everything that just works for me.

I'll try and do the exact same thing here when b8 starts to get integration tested.

I had the same problem.
But creating a new workspace worked for me.

I'm using the JBoss 2 IDE though

i still haven't been able to reproduce this with b8 so I assume fixed unless I see/hear other proof.

so you must also have clicked on some node in a tree, right ?

the problem is as the exception says - the hbm.xml is not in the console configuration classpath.

(p.s. in latest svn version of the plugins you don't need that anymore and the project classpath is enough)
