 Post subject: Why use Long id's?

I've seen that all examples from documentation use Long id's, and not long or int.

What's the reason? I find more easy to use a primitive type like long instead of Long... but maybe the Long is preferrable for some reason i can not see..

because the id can be non-assigned (e.g. null)
