We have changed our database character set from USASCII7 to UTF8 to mirror the production environment. After this change the following error is being thrown by Oracle - ORA-01461: can bind a LONG value only for insert into a LONG column. We are using hibernate for the persistence layer. Has anyone faced this error before. If so what is the reason for this.

utf8 use more bytes for character values and you achieve maximum bytes for column (probably varchar) - if you can big varchar column try inspect this or see sql and try it from sqlplus
this isn't problem with hibernate
