Database-managed row versioning?

I was wondering how to go about using database row versioning (eg SQL Server timestamp column). After beating my head against the <version> tag for I while, I realised that's for NH managed row versioning - is there any way I can get NH to honour the database-assigned version?

The hibernate solution to this appears to be: "Do another fetch on the database and compare the field in question". Obviously not as efficient or elegant as the framework doing it for you.

If I understand correctly, then the difference is that the DataBase update the <version>
So, to use this feature, we just need to tell NHibernate to not update it...

Am I right ?

Yes, but NHibernate also needs to do an optimistic concurrency check using the supplied value.
