Hibernate version: 3.1

I think it's great that 3.1 is out, but should we use it yet and how backward compatible with 3.0 is it?

A few months ago I built an application using Hibernate 3.0 and I got a lot of help from the Caveat Emptor project on how to do things.

I see the latest Caveat Emptor is in Alpha right now.

My main concern is all the thread/session stuff. The H3.0 code seemed to explicitly define the thread for the session. A co-worker tells me that that stuff is more implicit in H3.1. So, I'm wondering how much thread/session code I will need.

If the Caveat Emptor stuff was completely finished, I'd use that as my base, but it looks like that code will be changing signifigantly to accomodate 3.1.

Any thoughts on this?

There is a migration guide. Linked from the front page and Documentation page. Yeah, easy to miss...

_New_ stuff in Hibernate 3.1 wrt Session handling is described here:

http://hibernate.org/42.html
http://hibernate.org/43.html

Yes, more difficult to find, especially if you don't read the reference documentation, which was also updated.
