Has anyone considered publishing a printed and bound book version of the manual? It's a very good source, but I'd rather have a professionally bound copy than a printout of the pdf.

There are several self-publishing resources that would take care of all the work (lulu.com for example). I couldn't find any author or ownership information in the manual though.. so I don't know who to ask.

Thanks

Usually you can get printing and binding of a PDF in a copy-shop for not much money. I think here I'd probably pay about 10 EUR for a single copy with ring binder. Print on demand isn't cheaper, and needs a certain volume, and has shipping costs, and somebody has to organize it, and... so on. It's really easier if people who want a printout do it on their own, with whatever fancy binding they like.

Thanks. If the people at the people at Kinkos give me trouble about copyright, what can I tell them? I didn't see a copyright notice with the manual. Is it GPL? Public Domain?

The copyright holders are the authors and the source, as well as the compiled files, are released under the LGPL. Make no changes to them and you can make as many copies for distribution as you like. However, you are not allowed to charge money and any modifications you make must be made public as well.

Besides, if some guy in a copy shop would try to teach me about copyright and licenses I'd probably walk out right away. Is it that bad in the US now or are you just trying to do conversation?

It's just the big chain copy places that have gone all overboard with the copy right crap. I've had friends who couldn't get prints made because the guy behind the counter didn't believe the images were his (he had some very professional looking stuff, but that doesn't excuse anything).

Thanks for the info. I just wanted to make sure i knew which license it was under in case they throw a fit. I'll give it a shot this week. Thanks.
