I am working my way through the book and I have come to a stand-still in section 2.3.2 Configuration in non-managed environments.

This is my hibernate.properties file

hibernate.connection.driver_class=com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver

The setup instructions and beginners stuff in HiA is for Hibernate 2.x, you are using Hibernate 3.x. If you don't want to learn and migrate at the same time, please use the Hibernate 3 reference documentation tutorial, chapter 2.
