I installed the plugin per instructions. I get the whole hibernate perspective and can start the configuration console and such, but when I open a hibernate mapping configuration file the mapping editor does not appear to activate. I am using eclipse 3.1 for linux. The only other plugins i have installed are the spring framework and I also have the xmlbuddy plugin installed in ecliipse but I assume that is of no consequence.

What am i missing?

well - if they "take-over" the ownership of .xml files then sure it will have an effect!

Be sure to open it with the WTP XML Editor.

max thanks for the reply.

I know this is probably outside of the hibernate scope but I don't know how to open the WTP XML Editor. Is there a way to change what xml edit is opened cause they all seem to open with xml buddy?

I tried removing the xml buddy plugin from eclipse and installed the Web Tools plugins. When I go to my plug-in configuration i see that the WTP .7 plugins are there. But all my xml files have red boxes around them and won't open now. Clearly i didn't configure it properly, i would appreciate if you could point me in the right direction.

try run eclipse as "eclipse -clean" to ensure it forgets about the removed plugins (the reason why you have red boxes)

To open something with a different edtior right click and use
"Open with..." if the editor you need is not there you need to go to the config and mess around with editor associations and possibly content[types - try and ask on the WTP newsgroup if anything else fails ;)

Thanks for your input max. Unfortunately I can't find any intuitive configuration options regarding this. When select "Open with" wtp is not a choice even though it is registered as a plugin. This is very frustrating that i can't even get the tools to work, it is suppose to be the easy part.

yes - and on a clean eclipse it really should be easy in alpha5 ;)

The wTP editor is just named XML Editor - you dont get that in your menu ?
