The EntityManager does loads ManyToOne relations eagerly

I have an entity with many ManyToOne relations. When I load the entity the EntityManager eagerly loads all ManyToOne relationships recursively.

If I specify the fetch type to lazy with @ManyToOne(fetch = FetchType.LAZY ) then everything works correctly.

Is this normal? I thought that the default behaviour is lazy.

this is correct, the default behavior of EJB3 is EAGER for many to one as per the annotations default
