In our project, there is a requirement that we should provide user-defined columns i.e user should be able to choose few columns and label them as they like and use it for their own purposes.

The way we are thinking of providing this is to have a table with pre-defined number of different data types say, 3 strings, 4 dates and 2 numbers and the labels for each of them.

Is that the right approach? Is there any other better way to do this? Has anyone done such things before?

Thanks!
