Is there any strategy out there for using hibernate with custom fields. I define custom fields as data elements defined through the application. These may or may not need to be queried but will definitely need to be saved and loaded into the proper java type.

This would be an object field whose type is defined at runtime. The value and the type would need to be stored.

You can do all kinds of crazy stuff in that area with dynamic-class, dynamic-component and custom UserTypes. Not an easy field though.
