[Hi Gavin,

We are using Hibernate for our Web Based Application, we have come up with few issues:
The application has a multi-tier architecture with struts for the presentation layer and hibernate as the persistence layer. The application also involves stateless session beans in the business tier. The database used is Oracle 9i and the application server is WAS 5.1.

This is not doable.

Makes sense, how can Hibernate find out the value of the version column after an update?

You can of course map an ordinary property with insert=false update=false, but you can't have it used for optimistic locking.

i'm not Gavin ;) but for your 'Issue 2' ... take a look at the 'UserType'-Interface ... you can do 'nearly everything' with those CustomUserTypes ...
