Is this tool for importing XML exported by XmlDataBinder, which was mentioned last September on the forums here and in Ara Abrahamian's blog here, available anywhere? I couldn't find it in the distribution or in CVS. Thanks.

if you just want something to load data from xml not from XMLDataBinder, you may want to look at http://hloader.sourceforge.net

Hi guys,

I have registered http://hloader.sourceforge.net/ as an alternate way of exporting and importing table data, but have not tested the code yet.

It would however be really useful to master hibernate classes 'XMLDatabinder' and 'ReverseXMLDatabinder' in order to export xml copies of specific tables, then recreate a table space from scratch, and finally import the xml copies back again.

I guess exporting xml and importing xml would not involve too many lines of code. Can anyone provide a code snip of how to do this?!

Many thanks for your help.
Jon

I wonder about the "XML" part. Why XML? Comma separated value files have the same semantics, just a different syntax. CSV text files have the advantage that I don't need any special tools to work with my file format, like I would for XML.

Why XML? I just assumed that XMLDatabinder binds to XML....

But by all means, my main objective is exporting tables for later to import the same tables.

If exporting/importing data using CSV is another option, could you show me how please? Preferably with some code examples?

Many thanks for your help.
Jon

Database management systems usually have builtin CSV export/import functionality or come bundled with tools for this. There is not much Hibernate in this, although I can see the value of cross-plattform imports and exports.

Actually we have been discussing this recently and we might expand the whole XMLBinder/Loader thing to do this. However, the current features are considered experimental and unsupported by the Hibernate developers. If someone else (e.g. the hloader project) wants to use and look at that, good.
