Hibernate version:2.1.6

For lazy loading of collections, the client app has to have an open session laying around. This seem like a real pain in multitier designs. Why cant Hibernate's lazy loader have an interface that the client can implement to find/create a session when the lazy load takes place?

public interface ILazyLoaderSessionGetter {
Session getSession();
void returnSession(); //loader calls this when it is done
}
