Does anyone know if there is any plan to support for XQuery in the near future?

Hibernate does not use the JBossCache that recently came out. Is there plans to use the same cache at some point?

Is there a good white paper that discusses pros-and-cons of using hibernate vs. other technologies?

Even if Hibernate doesn't come bundled with the latest JBossCache JARs (different release cycle), you can still use the latest JBossCache. It works fine.

Hibernate in Action, Chapter 1, explains why and when object/relational mapping should be used.
