Hi,

I have seen in http://forum.hibernate.org/viewtopic.php?t=924813 that ODMG is considered dead, but it is still included in Hibernate's current distribution.
My group is evaluating Hibernate, but we noticed a dependency with odmg.jar when using Collections.
Is there an alternate manner of using Collections that does not have a dependency on ODMG?

Thanks.

This has been a topic some time ago. The ODMG support works and we know that some people use it (not more than a dozen, i'd think), so it won't be deprecated in Hibernate2.

This is great news, Christian.
Would you please tell me where I can find the current ODMG 3.0 license terms and support page?
I have checked http://www.odmg.org but it still reflects only version 2.0. Is there a site from which I could download the original ODMG jar file?

Unfortunately, I can't. I remember searching for the same thing about half a year ago and it has all been removed.

Hmm. But then, how can we be sure about the license status of ODMG 3.0? I would not want to use a library that I can't confirm I am authorized to by its original author.

I assume that Hibernate team does not author ODMG 3.0, since it is listed as a 3rd party product.

Could we use a different approach to persist Collections with Hibernate?

Of course, there wouldn't be any real problem, but thats usually not good enough for lawyers. I remember that Gavin has the ODMG 3.0 book and the specification (and, I assume, the license) would only be available with that book. Maybe he has more information about it.

You need the ODMG interfaces for Hibernate2. After it comes up again and again, I'm seriously considering removing it right away. Gavin has the final word about that.
