Hi,

I am looking at using Hibernate to replace EJBs within a J2EE application that is running on a 2 machine cluster.
The application has almost complete control of the database, thus caching of the data is very feasible and almost a requirement.

After reading most of the documentation I could find and browsing around a bit I can't see how I could use hibernate with a 2nd level cache which would correctly handle invalidations across the clustered machines for WSAD (unless the JBoss cache works with WSAD?).

Is this currently possible?

I read a comment posted on the server side (can't remember who and site is broken) that strongly implied that it could be done.

Has anyone out there done this yet using WebSphere?

David.

Yes, you should be able to use JBossCache in WAS. This is probably the best bet for now. Alternatively, you could try SwarmCache, but note that we are currently working with the SwarmCache guys to try and deliver stricter correctness guarantees than is currently possible.

Is there any progress with this?

I'd be interested to see how Websphere cluster is supported now in Hibernate.

I'm sorry, I can't see what "progress" is needed. JBoss cache works in WebSphere. What else do you need?

Hi Gavin,

Sorry for being "not specific" :).

What I meant was:
I have done some search for supporting information like how different cache products worked out on WebSphere. I did find posts stating that JBoss works with Websphere, but (may be I was blind) I am wondering whether there are any detailed test results like:
    1. What features of JBoss cache works fine with WAS
    2. What does not work, uses should not attemp to make it work - but Hibernate will work fine without that feature
    3. What (if any) are the hacks and tweaks may be needed to have things work well
    4. Websphere versions vs. JBoss cache releasses ..... and so on.

I'd like to use some kind of cache with Websphere V5.0.x. But I would like to know more before jumping into it.
May be I'm unnecessarily overcautious?

Regards,
Dan
