Hi,

When will a fully tested version of Hibernate 2.1.2+ that uses JBossCache 1.0 with distributed cache be available?

Thanks,
Dan

What do you mean by "fully tested"? Hibernate 2.1.2 includes JBossCache integration.

Hi Gavin,

Sorry if I struck a chord - not my intention. I was under the impression that the current version of Jboss Cache does not fully support distributed caching of objects other than Strings. If that is true, my question was when will the version of Jboss cache that supports distributed caching be released and when will Hibernate then say okay the new version works with Hibernate?

Like I said sorry if you took offense, I really like Hibernate, thanks for all your hard work,

Dan

That is certainly not true. Where did you get that idea?

(I did not take offense, not sure how my answer got interpreted that way.)

Gavin,

Actually we corresponded via the Jboss support site where I had a couple questions one of which was:

1. How far along is a production quality release of jboss cache that has been thoroughly tested with Hibernate. We would like to have some type of distributed cache for read mostly data that we can use for both hibernate and our own caching?

The response was:

1. Currently JBoss Cache is missing some features like eviction policies (well, actually that is the main one). Ben Wang is working on that.

In addition, from reading through the forums and documentation I thought that there was a limitation with caching distributed object graphes and thus use of Jboss Cache with Hibernate might be limiting...

So I guess I read too much into the response ect and assumed that we should wait for the next release...

So to sum up Hibernate works just fine with the current Jboss Cache version including distributed caching? Any known limitations?

Thanks,
Dan

Well, the one about a lack of eviction policies ion JBoss cache is an important limitation.
