We deployed an app version last week that instantly consumed all the memory given to the VM, about 1.2 gig, and we accidentally had show_sql=true.

Could this be our problem? We are trying to narrow it down. Unfortunately profiling the app is proving difficult with no memory available...

Thanks

Probably not but It will for sure slow it down (out in the console)

Check your logging settings. Hibernate logging can produce an enormous amount of garbage.

We verified our logging settings, they were set to INFO, and show_sql=true. Websphere is the app server and it logs to a file... (I am just thinking out loud)

We got one quick snapshot from a profiler before it crashed and it showed 50% of the memory usage was from String.

It is possible, I guess. Try changing it.
