I'm running hibern8ide (or trying to) from an ant build.xml file.

Where hibernate.lib.class.path is used for all things hibernate (e.g., every jar in hibernate, but nothing from the hibernate extensions).

hibern8ide launches and closes immediately with no error or other message!

Have a look at the tools example we did for JAOO. It has working examples of most of the tools.

I think this is a mis-direct. It has no mention of Hibern8IDE ... the tool in question. I already have hbm2java, et. al. working. But Hibern8IDE just craps out.

I don't know about Hibern8IDE, but I have debugged a bunch of similar Ant issues. Did you run with ant -debug? Did you echo the exact classpath? Can you try to get Ant to print out the command line it is trying to execute in your task?

Generally the problem is that Ant is doing something subtly different than what you think it is doing. Or else perhaps you need fork="true" to get it to spawn Hibern8IDE in a different VM. There may be other issues with trying to run independently-threaded GUI apps from within Ant.

You might be better off just writing a batch file to launch Hibern8IDE :-) It's a bit odd to be launching an interactive application from inside Ant, which is generally a batch-oriented tool....

Yes, you were right, it was an issue with ANT. Fixing a classpath typo and setting fork="true" solved it.

As to using Ant as a launcher, I find it very convenient for development tools. I launch middlegen that way. It is nice to have all the classpaths (typos not-withstanding) that relate to a development environment nicely contained in one place.
