How Do I enable logging in a standalone application
outside of any framework.

I have copied the log4j.properies file into the root of my
class path. however I am still recieveing the following errors

log4j:WARN No appenders could be found for logger (net.sf.hibernate.cfg.Environment).
log4j:WARN Please initialize the log4j system properly.

i have also tries to creat a logger explicetly:

Code:
private static Log log = LogFactory.getLog(RatsApp.class);

however this does not have an effect either.

Placing log4j.properties on your classpath should be enough. Trying setting the log4j debug System property to true to see what it thinks is going on (-Dlog4j.debug=true).

Thanks,

the problem was with Eclipse (possibly a configuration issue)
I had the properties file in my source directory
however it never got migrated to the output directory.

I copied it manually and logging worked correctly.

regards

Konrad
