Dear all,

I would use hibernate to persist data in our commercial product.

I promise, that product just simply calls hibernate API and I maybe need to implement the Interceptor interface. The kernal delivery of product is a management arithmetic and a graphcial authoring tool.

I wonder whether I could simply integrate hibernate binary package into our product installation program? If not allowed, what should I do to use hibernate legally?

Looking forward to your valuable comments!

Best regards,

Jun Huang

Check out the licence FAQ: http://hibernate.org/104.html

The page mentioned above may be a little dated with regard to the c3p0 details. I seem to recall it being LGPL'd recently which relaxes the license a little, although Hibernate my ship with an older (GPL) version.

Thanks Justin!

I never touch c3p0's function directly.

In fact, I even disabled c3p0's usage in my project.

So I could package hibernate freely?

Best regards,

Jun Huang

short answer: yes

long answer: http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/lesser.html. (Note that the license is also included with the hibernate download - something that you may be obliged to do too)

This may also help as it tackels the concept of proprietary software: http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/why-not-lgpl.html

It is not dated, but the little tiny sentence was hard to find :-)
I put it in bold.
