I have switched from using 2.1b6 to 2.1rc1 and I am getting MappingExceptions at runtime (i.e., net.sf.hibernate.MappingException: insert="false", update="false" not supported for properties of components: latestVersion).

Have the mapping requirements changed from 2.1b6 to 2.1rc1? If so, why can't component properties be non-insertable/non-updateable?

Thanks[/i]

This was never supported for component properties. Check the DTD. We are just warning the user about this now.

Are there any plans to support this in the future? is it worth adding it as a request to JIRA?

I don't really plan it.

You can always add a request - but the complexity is not really worth the benefit, I think...
