Out of curiosity, what are some of the other statistics?
Like ratio of posts to reads, % of users who have never posted, etc.?

Is there any chance of adding more forums to split the load? I'd be lost without my 'watched' topics.

Would it also be useful to display the most watched topics in a forum? (to generate a sort of unofficial FAQ)

The new forums have been an excellent resource whilst I'm learning and are a big improvement over the old SF ones. Good work! :-D

I think a good idea for a new forum might be a "How do I map this?" forum. Where people could ask the community about the various ways of mapping a given structure.

I don't think more forums is going to help here. I don't see people following the seperation right now and they propably never will.

I'm not sure of that. The How do I map this question should be solved by docs or tutorials. This will soon appear to be HCS (Hibernate Consulting Services ;-))

However, having the separation :
* How can I do / Is it doable ?
* This does not work

might be good but quite incompatible with the beginner / advanced separation.

Would it be feasible to create one more forum category that is strictly a user only category. The only support in this category would come from the user community alone, not from the Hibernate Team.

In addition, if somebody posts a simple question( one answered by docs/FAQs) in a Hibernate Team supported category, a Hibernate team member can "push a button" that automatically replies to the post:

"This question is answered in the Hibernate documentation/FAQ. However we have posted this message over to the 'Hibernate Community Forum Category' in event that another Hibernate user/developer may address this posting".

And then as stated in the above message, the message/question would be automatically posted to the community category.

Just an idea to help alleviate some of the burden.

It's a good idea, we keep that in mind. :)

With regards to the mapping questions; what about if we had a "Mapping Patterns" or, more accurately, "Mapping Recipes" page where we could present a list of common mapping "problems" and their solutions.

I for one find that examples that include the table structures, mappings and (if necessary) code make it much easier to learn.

It also has the added benefit of making it easier to understand for the database oriented among us (like me) ... I think from the DB up, Hibernate's perspective (and documentation) seems to be from the application down.

I would be happy to contribute to such a mapping recipe page. I currently use a project full of JUnit tests to work out mappings, but a web based resource for all would be great!

Cheers,
-Carl

One of the major benefits of the Wiki is that the community (you in this case) can start the page in the community section of the wiki. So go for it.

Hibernate Team,

See my post above about a community only forum.

This posting - Paginate Child

Gavin, you replied to this post within about 6-7 minutes. This is clearly a posting that could be answered by the community members. You guys are TOO good.

I think you should really consider my above suggestion about a "community only" category to this forum. You should at least let some of these basic postings slide for awhile. Maybe somebody else will pick them up.

Commercial support of commercial products try to guarantee contact within 1 hour 90% of the time.
Hibernate community (17.49% Gavin ;-)) probably answer within an hour 90% of the time. Not that bad ;-)

But with commercial support you probably don't have to put up with the occasional rant from tempramental developers ;)
