I want to move the data in one DB schema on a particular RDBMS into another, identical, schema on a different RDBMS (to prove that our Hibernate-based App works fine when you stick a real DB underneath it).

Does anyone know of any good tools out there for this (beside SQL Server DTS')?
Preferrable Java-based and opensource?

Cheers,
Shorn.

You could use Hibernate. Setup two session factories and read from one then to the next. The schema tool can generate the schema for you to setup the db in the first place. There maybe better ideas out there though this one will work.

I tried http://bobcat.webappcabaret.net/antonywarner/db2db once - seemed ok ...had troubles with large data amounts - but it has improved since....

Why not trying dbunit - it can export data into XML files, and re-import them in possibly another database (provided schema is the same)...

Can be invoked from within ANT.

Here's another tool available as a Eclipse plugin (never tried it myself). Looks good, though.
