I've read the manual section covering cascades on bidirectional 1-N relations. However, I'm using a unidirectional relation from child (N) to parent (1). In other words, there is no direct link from the parent object to it's children. Is it possible to model a cascade delete (children get deleted when parent is deleted) in the mapping file, or can this only be done in code (or through a bidirectional relationship)?

You can implement a Lifcycle interface on the parent, but this would not be cleaner design I guess. I don't see any other way (after all, the parent doesn't know anything about the children and it shouldn't, by design).
