If an entity is detached, what is the difference between invoking em.find() and em.refresh() for it? I know there is some configurable cascading behaviour for refresh() is there any other difference?

Breako, this is not the first time I advise you: go and read Java Persistence with Hibernate.
You lack some basic knowledge and this will speed up your project greatly.
