I was at the downloads page and it says 3.0.0 beta2 released in 2007.

Is this project dead because it seems like an extremely nice project.

thanks,
Dean

yes it's right, there were no more releases after that.
I also considered it quite interesting, but apparently there wasn't much interest.
If you really need it, you can contribute to it.

you might find this also useful: http://in.relation.to/Bloggers/MultitenancyInHibernate

And... we're working on improved solutions :)

multitenancy is interesting but I am more worried about designing a system where we can throw down cheap boxes....of course it turns out one of the most important architecture decisions in these VLDB environments is not even the technologies really but the network layout. You can restore a full 2 terabyte db in 40 minutes according to one case study(4 nics on each computer and 4 drives so things are being done in parallel all on one db...there is a great case study on that which I ran into).

I may very well pick up supporting hibernate shards for a 5 terabyte project set to grow to 25(length that we hold customers data I am told is going to move to 5 times what we hold now). I would love if I can get a solution where we can throw down cheap postgres servers as we scale....getting the partitioning right will be a pain but shards does have the virtual partitions. Even more difficult though is moving legacy to a new solution :(....that will probably be the biggest challenge.

as far as I know it is quite stable and has been used in the current form, what would be most needed is to bump it's dependency to the latest version of Hibernate core, which is likely to need some code changes too.
