there are several things you can do:

• Sign up for the hibernate-dev mailing list and follow our discussions.
• Check out the source code and make yourself familiar with it (https://www.hibernate.org/462.html).
• Start browsing the JIRA issues (http://opensource.atlassian.com/project ... se/HSEARCH) and find something you feel you could tackle.

You can also ask us on the hibernate-dev mailing list which issue we think is suitable to get started.
The links I posted here are for Hibernate Search. Similar things apply for Hibernate Core or Hibernate Validator. I posted this links, because you posted your questions on the Search Validator forum. Here is the equivalent information for Validator (https://www.hibernate.org/459.html).
