 Post subject: Help understand Caveat Emptor's impl of DAO pattern

I'm trying to learn the DAO pattern by looking at the impl in CE and mirroring it to my current project.

I noticed that in ItemDAO.java, the get*Bid() methods take IDs as arguments. Is there a compelling reason why these shouldn't be Item instances instead of PKs for Items in the DB? Or could I just provide both?

You can design the DAO methods in any way you want.
