Christian,

Shouldn't CaveatEmptor entities java code be generated by
hibernatetool ant task using hbm2java from *.hbm.xml model as a demonstration of
better practices? Maintaining both hbm.xml and entities code in
source control and keeping them in sync could be a problem
for larger scale projects if users are allowed to modify code in java class
of the entity. hbm.xml files (I believe) should have enough information
to produce an entity code.

Thanks,
--MG

CaveatEmptor is not about code generation, but about showing good design and efficient O/R mappings done via hibernate - code generation
is not an important part of this.

Furthermore caveatemptor is starting to use annotations which will solve the problem you are talking about since mapping and code are side by side.

That said hbm2java codegeneration is good and recommended many projects/developments; but I think it would move the focus away from the actual goal of informing about writing good mappings and code if it was used as the primary technique in caveatemptor since caveemptor is not a huge amount of classes.

Always remmeber to use the right tool for the right job.
