Hibernate version:
Alpha 1 of the tool (mapping editor)

Name and version of the database you are using:

Oracle 9.2

I am trying out the mapping editor and unable to get the auto-completion or insight in *.hbm.xml files.

*.hbm.xml and .xml files are associated with Text Editor in Eclipse preferences. I didn't find Hibernate Editor choice from list.

What is the trick to get the auto-completion.

thanks

Read the docs ;)

Hint: you need to go associate *.xml files with Hibernate Mapping Editor under preferences. Just associating them with *.hbm.xml as we do is not enough because of a long time bug in eclipse about not handling multiple dots in prefixes.

Max,
Thanks for the reply.
I looked thru the doc at the following URL
http://www.hibernate.org/hib_docs/tools/
and did not find the instructions on how to configure this.

I think the problem on my end, is I don't find the option of associating Hibernate Mapping Editor in the preferences. When I check the plug-ins installed , I do see that Mapping Editor is installed., Somehow it doesn't come up in the list of Internal editors in the eclipse.

I can understand that this the alpha version of the software.

thanks

Are you sure you installed JBoss IDE? Separate download.

I downloaded the JBoss-IDE w/Hibernate tools bundled last week, and created a Hibernate project from scratch. Clicking the .hbm.xml did not open them with the hbm.xml editor so I manually associated the .xml extension per max's recommendation.

That fixed it. I didn't see this mentioned in the documentation at http://www.hibernate.org/hib_docs/tools/.

hmm it was in there at some point...must have lost it at some point.

but anyways in the cvs version we utilize eclipse 3.1 content-types which will automatically recognize any .xml with <hibernate-mapping> in the beginning as an hbm.xml file.
