I wanted to write my own implementation for the toString() method that gets auto-generated with hbm2java, or turn it off completely. How can I do that? I unsuccessfully tried writing:
<meta attribute="implement-toString">false</meta> :)

Thanks,

I think you can either use the velocity version of the renderer and modify the template, or subclass the net.sf.hibernate.tool.hbm2java.BasicRenderer providing your implementation of "doToString".

hmmm - it once only made it if a property had asked for tostring....

make a JIRA for it and it will be made at sometime - a patch will make it go faster ;)
