I was wondering if there is any way within Hibernate to either

1. Drop unused columns from tables.
2. Rename columns in tables.

I like SchemaUpdate because it deals with updating the schema in a platform independant way. I'm just wondering if there is a way to do refactorings in a platform independant way in the future. Any thoughts?
